Hi, I'm Raghu C Nallapati.

Raghu C Nallapati is a leading figure in the intersection of embedded software, autonomous vehicle architecture, and applied Artificial Intelligence, bringing over 11 years of experience to the automotive industry. Recognized as a Master's Excellence Award Winner , his career is defined by a commitment to advancing vehicle safety, intelligence, and performance, particularly within the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) paradigm.Professional Leadership and Expertise
Currently serving as a Software Team Lead at General Motors Corporation, Raghu directs small groups of software engineers on technical direction and oversees the design and release of crucial vehicular systems. His leadership is instrumental in high-profile projects, including software and calibration development for the Blazer EV Police Pursuit vehicle, Corvette EV, and Cruise Autonomous Vehicle Body Control and Exterior Lighting Modules. He ensures that software performance meets demanding mass, cost, and timing requirements, and approves/authors Engineering Work Orders (EWOs) for release.
Raghu's technical command spans the entire embedded software lifecycle:
• AUTOSAR Architecture: He is highly experienced in developing and releasing Body Controls & Lighting Modules using AUTOSAR architectural software, including configuring COM stack, DEM, FIM, DCM modules, and developing Application Software Components and RTE Configurations.
• Functional Safety & Standards: Raghu has working knowledge of the ISO 26262 road vehicle safety standards and has applied ISO 26262 (ASIL) and ISO 14229 (UDS) standardizations in development.
• Vehicle Networks: He is proficient in Automotive CAN, LIN, and Ethernet vehicle network development and testing, simulating and testing features using protocols like GMLAN.
• Model-Based Design: His expertise includes MATLAB/Simulink Modelling, Code Generation, and conducting MIL/SIL simulations and testing.
• Microcontrollers and Tools: Raghu has extensive experience with various IDES and microcontrollers, including NXP MPC 5606XB/5674F, Renesas RH-850/RL78, and ATMEL-AVR platforms. He utilizes industry-standard tool suites such as DaVinci Developer, DaVinci Configurator-Pro, Vector s/w development tool suite, EB-Tresos, and CANoe.
Research and Academic Pursuit
Raghu is currently pursuing a Doctor of Engineering in ECE (AI in Automotive) at the University of Michigan, Dearborn, MI. His doctoral research is focused on implementing Artificial Intelligence into vehicle subsystems, specifically aimed at improving readiness and safety in policing by developing predictive maintenance, situational awareness, and officer support tools. This critical research is funded by GM's STAP program and involves high-level collaboration with the Law Enforcement Product Council (LEPC).
Earlier in his career, Raghu conducted a graduate Master's thesis and 2-year professional research on a Mini Electric Vehicle, which included embedded hardware design, coding, testing, and integration.Professional Affiliations and Service
Raghu is highly engaged in shaping industry standards and supporting the engineering community through several leadership and service roles:
• IEEE Standards Leadership: He is an IEEE Senior Grade Member and holds the distinguished role of IEEE SA working group chair for 'Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Enabled Performance and Safety Requirements in Vehicles'.
• Law Enforcement Community: He is an Associate Member of the IACP (International Association of Chiefs of Police) and collaborates closely with LEPC, reinforcing the connection between his research and real-world law enforcement needs.
• Technical Reviewer: Raghu actively contributes to technical stewardship by reviewing papers for various IEEE conference papers and technical paper manuscripts for the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
• Conferences and Outreach: He is the Secretary for the IEEE SEM (Southeastern Michigan) conference and serves as the SAC Chair for SEM. He is a Professional Member and Volunteer for the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
Raghu's commitment to excellence and his deep-seated experience in both traditional embedded systems and emerging AI technologies position him as a pivotal leader in the ongoing evolution of intelligent, safe, and autonomous vehicle platforms.
